Progress Report - Taltz Update

Welcome and welcome back! I've been gone a while and I'm here to tell you why!
So as you may know, I was put on Taltz at the start of August. I've got a few progress report posts in the "Current Treatment" tab. I had been experiencing headaches and migraines since beginning treatment, and was feeling alot of fatigue. I had put it down to starting a new treatment and having a loading dose - two needles on the same day. But the headaches continued.
I was also dealing with extreme exhaustion, continued joint pain, and a few other things.
And then I got sick.
I went to the doctor at the end of August with what I thought was the flu. I mentioned my new medication, and the headaches etc. He took a look at me, and deduced I had a severe sinus infection, (the real cause of the headaches), an infection in my throat and a body so run down I could barely get out of bed.
I was told not to take any shots while I had an active infection, and so I started on antibiotics.
Then a loop started. Antibiotics didn't help the infections, but did give me thrush, and then I'd run out of antibiotics, headaches would start again, I'd fill the repeat for antibiotics, start over!
3 x 10 day rounds of antibiotics later, I still had the infections and the doctor said no more antibiotics, there was nothing else they could do, I just have to wait it out. I went back to Dr Derm, and he said no more. So. No more Taltz! In the end, I only had 4 needles. I haven't had one since late August, and I'm still trying to get rid of this stupid sinus infection that wont bugger off, which needs to go before I can begin the next treatment. I'm still not better but I think i'm as good as I'm going to be for a while, so I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things from here on.
As far as my skin goes, Even though I only had 4 injections, I am still clear! I am however insanely itchy, particularly on my scalp, and my joints are relatively ok, but the cortisone shot in my shoulder is starting to wear off, and I'm noticing more and more when I've over done it again. So, I'm hoping I can clear out this infection asap and begin the next treatment in Enbrel. I've got an appointment with an Ear, Nose and Throat Doc next month, so if I'm still trying to kick this infection then, I'm hoping she'll be able to help!
Despite the negatives I've been dealing with, I do believe Taltz will be a savior for ALOT of people. The fact it works so fast is a huge tick! If down the track it is recommended for me again, I would change a few things about how I go about it. I was in such a rush to get onto something because I was in pain, that I didn't take any time to give my immune system a boost. This is what I would recommend to anyone starting it (or any biologic for that matter). Start with some immunity boosting vitamins, a well rounded diet, and if at all possible - don't start treatment in the middle of cold and flu season!! I believe in part that because I was flaring up pretty bad before I started (hence the rush to start) I was already pretty run down. My little guy picked up a cold from somewhere, and bang. I was out for it. If I had my time over, I'd have done a few weeks of vitamins at least!
As it stands, I wont be on it again for a good while, but I don't want anyone to shy away from this treatment on my account. I would really encourage you to try and work with your doctor to try it! I've yet to hear any patients report that it was unsuccessful in treating or at the very least improving their skin! Definitely worth trying!!
In other news! I have a few exciting posts coming up - I have a guest post from a fellow sufferer who is going through Topical Steroid Withdrawal and talking about the risks associated with steroid creams - Something I didn't even know was a thing!
I was also lucky enough to be flown over to Melbourne last week on behalf of Psoriasis Australia, to sit in on a stakeholders meeting and hear the decision makers go through the processes and regulations that stand between us and access to biologics! This will be a post this week, and it appears big changes are coming! I'll keep the rest for the upcoming post!
So all in all, Things are both happening, and at a standstill. But an update is an update!
